Sometimes being the only "black" person in the room is important. We have to be in charge of passing down "our history" properly to "our children".
Today I joined my son's class to visit the African Burial Ground National Monument. I was the only black parent there. The other two parents (white) didn't even talk to me the whole trip. 😑
But its okay. I was there for my son.

Being a Grinch About Back to School
So as we get ready to end our summer 2018 and get ready for back to school, I'm not happy. Not one bit.
This summer was suppose to be all about me and my son learning to bond in a new way as he moves into his tween years. He turned 10 in June! How is he 10 yrs now?!
And even though we did get some bonding in during our two travel trips, it doesn't seem enough before he goes back to school and ignoring me for his "friends". It didn't feel like we had a long enough summer of just "us". So I'm not ready to accept the end of summer. Meanwhile my son is beyond ready!
While he did enjoy "some" time with me, mostly this summer was about him discovering himself and making "tween" friends both off and online. And now he's ready for school to start so he can meet old and new friends, be rough and tough in the school yard and who knows what else tween boys get into.
My son can. not. wait. for September to be here. Meanwhile....I'm being the back to school Grinch.
Which kinda fits the latest package we received that had a chalk board. Ironically for the upcoming "The Grinch" film. So I'm suppose to take a photo of my son being "a Grinch" about going back to school. Well HA. The laugh is on them cause he's not The Grinch in this family. Ugh.
Anyway.....

Meeting scientist & deep sea creatures
We had a busy day at American Museum of Natural History meeting the scientist and seeing a real octopus tentacle.
We also learned about coral and other deep sea creatures.
